| The concept of a Native American Arts and Cultural
Center should be approached as a "vision", a dream of all that could
be. From a more practical perspective, the realization of an Arts
and Cultural Center will take much planning and collaboration
between the Native American peoples of Kentucky, the State of
Kentucky and many other interested parties.
The
planning must be thorough and seen as a long-range development plan,
i.e., a 10-year plan. This allows for pulling together federal and
state planning monies, drawing up of architectural plans, building
alliances with federal, state, and regional interests, such as
economic development and tourism.
Although
the State of Kentucky does not have any land-based State or
Federally-recognized tribes, there is a significant NA population
(8,000), and certainly no one denies the long history and
contribution of Native American peoples to the state and
region.
The
KYNAACC would include:
Library/Archives Museum Administrative Office
Space Auditorium/Theatre Gallery Gift Shop Studio
Space for Visiting Artists and workshops Conference and Meeting
Rooms Ceremonial Grounds Centralized
Performance/Dance Powwow Grounds Camping Grounds A Native
American plants/herbal and Sculptural garden Cafeteria
